A few nights ago I submitted our forum to be reviewed by theadminzone.com to get any suggestions. This to my astonishment turned out well. Here is their review.
First Impressions: Wow, the feeling and the theme of this forum really makes me feel like I can find a friend when I need one. Laid back, smooth and organized. The images and the color scheme just take me to cloud 9, where I feel relaxed, welcomed and certainly wanted.
Look
Guest’s Outlook: One adjective: Awe-inspiring. The idea that one may have BPD and needs to speak to someone makes the site even more inspiring and welcoming. The colors, the messages and the overall feeling just makes me want to join, and I haven’t shown any signs of bi-polar disorder. Essentially, the site is welcoming to guests, and if they’re wondering what the site is about, every detail screams “We’re a community of moody, bi-polar people–join here for a friend to speak to.”
Logo’s and Banners: Although the puzzles remind me of autism awareness, the over laying text will nip that in the bud with “BPD.” The colors are nice and calming as well. No suggestions here.
Quantity of Forums: Decent amount of forums, with a forum for every topic a person with BPD may want to talk upon. Very organized and laid out well.
Advertisements: One in the header, some at the footer and some on the side bar. All of them are worry-free and none are annoying. Ultimately, they are genre-related, so no complaints should be filed.
Color scheme and styles: Easy on the eyes, calming, welcoming, soothing, relaxing, inspiring, takes me to a place I’ve never been; are some adjectives I’d use to describe your site. The style is great. It’s simple, yet effective.
Page and image sizes: Not to wide, not too skinny, but just right. All images are dimensioned well.
Favicon, buttons and other graphics: Great favicon, but as aforementioned, the puzzle pieces may remind some of autism. Maybe “BPDF” will do suffice? Buttons are nice and match the skin. All other graphics are spot on.
Feel
Theme: BPD General Discussion/Help community. Everything embodies that, and it’s displayed well.
Sense of community and participation overview: Knit tight community, pretty active and welcoming – though I hate the auto-introduction modification. It’s blatant post padding. You could use some promotion too…
Post count and quality: Nearly 5K posts of quality. Lots of personal connections are being made.
Contests, games and diversions: No contests, there is an arcade. Start a Christmas contest!
Management
Points of registration: Standard vBulletin registration with a few custom fields. Love the diagnoses field and the medications they may be taking. It gives a more personal touch.
Rules, FAQ, and Privacy policy: Rules, custom FAQ and privacy policy. The rules are great, the custom question and answer is cool, and the privacy policy will do suffice.
Quantity and activity of staff: 1 administrator, 3 moderators. All of which are active, except for SLF. Why hasn’t he/she been on since September? I’m thinking you need to replace that sir or ma’am.
Overall impressions: Great, knit-tight community with a decent amount of content for your very niched genre! The people seem nice, the genre is different and the feel is amazing. I’d join if I was a BPD patient. Most of all, promote, promote, promote! Although you seem to get a steady amount of posts and content along with users, bringing more of each won’t hurt’cha a bit! Start some more contests and continue condoning intellectual discussion. With further ado, I’d give this community a 4.2/5!
Cheers.
