I have read and been told about DBT but not by anyone who has had Borderline and who has been through it. I’m interested to know how it is. .. I am also aiming to be “better” in a time of 6 months. I know half a year seems short but yeah. .. any thoughts?

I have borderline disorder and major depressive disorder. I have been through DBT twice, and I think it’s simply amazing. It has changed my life totally. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s HARD work, and some of the ideas they present seem impossible, but if you work at it, it can make your life soooo much better. And 6 months isn’t unreasonable- my life turned around within 5 months, so yours can too.

I’m 25 and have been Borderline since I was about 15. I also have major depression…yada yada…etc. I’ve been on meds and in therapy for years. It takes time to find meds that will help the recovery process. It won’t happen overnight. It will be a slow process. I’m glad to see that you are hopeful. Good luck! Oh, you can go to you tube and view videos on borderline personality disorder. I used to have it on my myspace page.

my husband has that and we deal with it everyday. One day at a time and like with anything there are good days and bad days, but you will have to deal with this for the rest of your life. with medication you may be able to keep from cycling too bad, (the extreme mood swings), but you won’t ever be “cured” from this. I’m sorry, but it’s really good that you are doing something about it. Good luck.

that’s not long at all, Bipolar is ALOT to deal with, especially if you’re young yet. It requires alot of medication…If you have family bear with them–people with bipolar require alot of patience…It will take longer I hate to say it but I knew someone with that…Took alot of medication and therapy to help them. Anything to help ya get better…

I hear a lot of good things about DBT. Don’t set yourself a time limit, though. Thinking too much about your illness is only bound to make you worse.
