BRINGING OUT THE BEST FROM A BPD PATIENT
A person with boderline personality disorder is a CREATIVE GENIUS..individuals with bipolar disorder during the manic phase tend to be much more outgoing and daring than individuals without bipolar disorder. In common with other major affective disorders such as unipolar depression, bipolar disorder is found in a large number of people involved in the arts…
Some studies have found a significant correlation between creativity and bipolar disorder. Though studies consistently show a positive correlation between the two, it is unclear in which direction the cause lies, or whether both conditions are caused by a third unknown factor. Temperament has been hypothesized to be one such factor
It is an ongoing question as to whether many creative geniuses had bipolar disorder
The image attached is a very famous painting by Van Gogh.. who painted his ‘starry night’ in his maniac(hypomaniac) state of BPD.. this itself shows how creative a person is during his/her maniac state..
The common attitude now a days in most part of the world is to use anti psychotics and try and depress patients whenever they are in their maniac state.. An approach ( though a bit tough for family members n relatives) is to bring out the best from these people.. by encouraging them to give their views and work on their ‘dreams’..
A progressive approach to this will be to set up institutions for the ‘gifted’ people.. where they can think, analyse, keep their views, discuss and are not merely treated as patients. This will not only give them confidence but also help in preventing creative geniuses from being lost!
Every country has done alot for many diseases.. awareness about BPD is also on rise.. but nothing has been done to ‘trap’ d talent we loose because we simply prescribe antipsychotics and just treat them as patients. The ‘new kind institutions’ will not only help them by giving them confidence of achieving something in life (when in depressive mood) but will also help the world. Govenments should invest in making such institutions for upliftment of the mental conditions… the depressive attitude.. and preventing the break up of so many families where BPD is considered to be a severe mental illness.. and the patient considered totally worthless..
Its time that we realize that BPD patients are not just patients but gifted individuals... who have got much more than normal people… n coz they are much ahead of the society we simply consider them to be ‘mentally ill” and prescribe them antipsychotics to bring down their genius (hypomaniac) state!
time to wake up!
